JOB SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Program Director, the Senior/Transition Specialist will counsel with students and parents to develop an individualized strengths-based intake summary and education plan, and provide customized services based on that plan. Develop and implement activities and programs, based on the statewide GEAR UP grant, to assist students in successfully graduating high school, preparing for, paying for and attending college. Monitor academic progress, by tracking attendance, course work and GPA, and provide feedback and assistance to students. Coordinate and provide first year college services to support student retention, persistence and graduation. Supervise GEAR UP post-secondary tutor.    Minimum Qualifications: Master's Degree in counseling, education, psychology, social science, or a related field. The equivalent of two years full-time work experience in educational advising, Experience in working with socially and economically disadvantaged, physically/learning disabled and/or diverse student populations (low-income, first-generation, minority students); Experience supervising students and support staff; Experience with secondary school system.    Preferred Qualifications:Excellent written and oral communication skills; Case management skills; knowledge of student development services and activities; knowledge of higher education enrollment, strong organizational skills; ability to work autonomously and with small groups; preference will be given to applicants with the ability to communicate in Spanish orally and in writing.
