JOB SUMMARY:
DUTIES: Responsible for the reception, processing and dispatching of routine and emergency calls for the Department of Public Safety. Operates communication equipment such as telephones, multi-frequency radio consoles, computer terminals, PBX, TDD, and the E-911 switchboard. Performs various checks on the computer terminal, types forms and reports, takes money for bail and traffic school, monitors the jail facility and the juvenile holding rooms. May search female prisoners (female dispatchers only). Performs other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS: Requires graduation from high school or its equivalent. Must have the ability to remain calm under emergency situations and be able to work rotating shifts, including weekends and holidays. Must pass the Utah Bureau of Criminal Identification (BCI) operator proficiency tests and recertify every two years. Must become certified in CPR and as a Utah Emergency Medical Dispatcher (EMD) within one year of hire date. Ability to type 40 wpm is required. Must have no illegal drug use/convictions within the last three years. Department policy does not allow tattoos, body piercings, or brandings to be visible while in uniform or at anytime when the employee is identifiable as a member of the department. Final candidates will be required to pass drug, psychological and polygraph or computer voice stress analysis examinations prior to hire
