JOB SUMMARY:
Job Summary: Solve material science related issues in multidisciplinary research and specialized production environment. Help is needed to solve problems in the following areas: adhesives, dielectric fillers, carbon fiber composites, high performance polymers, gas permeability of films, vacuum outgassing of organics. Moxtek researchs, designs and manufactures a variety of specialized products with challenging material requirements. Research and study the structures and chemical properties of various natural and manmade materials, including metals, alloys, rubber, ceramics, semiconductors, polymers, and glass. Determine ways to strengthen or combine materials or develop new materials with new or specific properties for use in a variety of products and applications. Essential Functions: 1. Conduct research into the structures and properties of materials, such as metals, alloys, polymers, and ceramics in order to obtain information that could be used to develop new products or enhance existing ones. 2. Devise testing methods to evaluate the effects of various conditions on particular materials. 3. Determine ways to strengthen or combine materials, or develop new materials with new or specific properties for use in a variety of products and applications. 4. Plan laboratory experiments to confirm feasibility of processes and techniques used in the production of materials having special characteristics. 5. Prepare reports of materials study findings for the use of other scientists and requestors. Recommend materials for reliable performance in various environments 6. Solve engineering problems with designs related to material failures, such as dramatically reducing gas diffusion rates through hermetic joins in hybrid microelectronic packages. Test, validate, and prove performance of designs. Solve outgassing problems in vacuum encapsulated thermo-electrically cooled hybrid microelectronic packages. 7. Publish, patent and present scientific discoveries Education and Experience: 1. MS or PhD in material science, Chemical engineering or similar. 2. 10 to 15 years' experience preferred Competencies: To perform the job successfully, an individual should demonstrate the following competencies to perform the essential functions of this position. 1. Polymer science 2. Adhesives selection, design, composition. 3. Micro-electronic hybrid circuitry adhesives, die attach, encapsulation and sealing 4. Material characterization including but not limited to: a. Polymer science: DSC, DMA, TGA b. Thin film materials and structures: Ellipsometry, SEM c. Surface and material analysis: XPS, XRF
