JOB SUMMARY:
Temporary Need 9/01/12 - 6/30/13. Requires a minimum of 6 months experience as a livestock worker. Performs any combination of the following tasks to attend to livestock primarily on the range: feeds and waters livestock; herds livestock to pasture for grazing; examines animals to detect diseases and injuries; assists with the vaccination of livestock by herding into corral and/or stall or manually restraining animal on the range; applies medications to cuts and bruises; sprays livestock with insecticide; assists with castration of livestock; clips identifying notches on or brands animals; may assist with irrigating planting cultivating and harvesting hay. Terms and conditions of employment: Worker's must be able to ride and handle horses in a manner to assure the safety of the worker, coworkers, and livestock; must be able to find and maintain bearings to grazing areas; must be willing and able to perform assigned tasks capably and efficiently without close supervision; must be reliable; absences from work and/or failure to perform required duties cannot be tolerated, as close supervision of workers may get undetected for prolonged periods of time; must be willing and able to occasionally live and work singly or in small groups of workers in isolated area of extended periods of time;job entails working with and around all livestock and farm equipment, working outdoors in all types of weather and in extreme temperatures of heat (+100 degrees F) and cold (-40 degrees F) during certain seasons of the year; job entails exposure to normal range hazards such as poisonous snakes, predators, rocky terrain, occasional dust storm, flash floods, blizzards and forest/grass fires. Room, board, kitchen facilities and transportation provided at no cost to the worker.
