JOB SUMMARY:
Job Description -Must be reliable, punctual, highly dependable,and flexible to work evenings, nights, graveyards, early mornings, weekends, Sundays, and holidays. -Must be able to type at least 50 wpm. -Must have and maintain excellent levels of written communications and keep meticulous records of transactions and events. -Must maintain confidentiality of all information in every facet. -Must have acute and focused hearing skills to monitor overlapping radio and telephone communications. -Must be detail-oriented with strong organizational skills. -Ability to learn or have extensive knowledge of university properties, locations, utilities, and structures. -Ability to make good decisions and prioritize in emergency and routine situations. -Ability to multi-task and remain calm while under stress. -Ability to communicate quickly, accurately, and clearly over radio and telephone systems with command presence and self-confidence. -Ability to work in teams, assist colleagues, relate to people and manage conflict. -Ability to keep alert and remain focused while on duty, regardless of workload and time of day or night. -The following certifications are required: o Utah POST (Peace Officer Standards and Training) Dispatch Certification. o NAEMD (Emergency Medical Dispatching) Certification. o NIMS (National Incident Management System) Certifications, IS-100, IS-200, and IS-700. o Utah BCI (Bureau of Criminal Identification) Certification for Records Handling. o CPR Certification Office Skills Test Required: Typing 50 WPM Preferred Duties/Responsibilities Receive and process emergency calls from the public requesting police, fire, medical or other emergency services. Determine the nature and location of the emergency; determine priorities, and dispatch police, fire, ambulance, or other emergency units as necessary and in accordance with established federal, state, and university protocols and procedures. Receive and process non-emergency calls and provide accurate and pertinent information to the public in accordance with high standards of customer satisfaction. Dispatch maintenance and other university personnel to incidents that require immediate action to ensure the safety and security of the campus. Continuously maintain contact with all units on assignment, keep a constant status and location of police, security, paramedics, firemen, traffic enforcement, and maintenance units. Record and track all requests for service using CAD (computer-aided dispatch) software. Enter, update and retrieve confidential information from a variety of computer and records systems. Closely monitor emergency and life-safety systems and alarms, such as fire detection, weather sensors, intrusion detection, access control, and security cameras. Simultaneously monitor several public safety radio frequencies and process requests for information from officers. Accurately relay information to officers regarding vehicle registration, driving records, criminal history, protective orders, ATL (attempt to locate) and warrants, etc. Demonstrate high technical literacy and proficiently operate a variety of complex equipment, including radio consoles, telephones, security cameras, and emergency notification systems. Approximate Starting Salary Range $30,621 - $39,800
