JOB SUMMARY:
Temporary need from 01/07/2012 - 10/31/13. Requires 3 months experience working in a nursery handling both manual and machine tasks associated with commodity production and harvest activities. Workers are required to keep all property and farm buildings clean. Work such as plants, cultivates and maintains bedding plants in condition for shipping and sale to customers; pots seedlings, prunes, transplants, spaces, irrigates and culls plants to ensure availability of marketable products; packs, labels, pulls and stores plants according to variety; may uncover and/or recover winter storage houses; weeds, mows, loads/unloads truck and wagons; may operate tractors and other mechanical equipment under supervision; performs other duties involved in the maintenance of plant materials and nursery stock and maintenance of holding yards and shipping areas such as irrigating, ditching, shoveling, hoeing, hauling, ground preparation, and weeding; lifting and carrying up to 60 lbs and lifting to a height of 5 feet; workers should be able to work on their feet in bent position for long periods of time; workers will work in hot, cold and sometimes wet conditions, according to the weather. Tools, room, board, kitchen facilities and transportation provided at no cost to the worker unable to return to their usual place of residence each day. Terms and conditions of employment: Allergies to ragweed, goldenrod, insect spray, related chemicals, etc, may affect workers' ability to perform the job. Employer retains the right to discharge an obviously unqualified worker, malingerer or recalcitrant worker who is physically able but does not demonstrate the willingness to perform the work necessary for the employer to grow a premium quality product, or for any other lawful reason. The employer guarantees to offer the worker employment for a total number of work days equal to at least 3/4's of the total work period beginning with the first workday after the arrival of the worker at the place of employment or advertised contractual first day of need. Whichever is later to occur, and ending on the expiration date specified.
