University of Utah Health Care seeks staff that are committed to the values of compassion, collaboration, innovation, responsibility, diversity, integrity, quality and trust that are integral to our mission. - Oversees the collection and organization of data that are entered into databases, particularly coding databases. - Ensures the accuracy of data, analyzes conflicting data, and verifies and collects missing information. - Reviews and interprets patient care information, discharge summaries, operative reports, and other data sources used to assess accuracy of data. - Utilizes computer programs and software to analyze data; determines trends and changes in coded data. - Develops and presents recommendations for a course of action based on the analysis of coded data. - Works with end user to gather reporting requirements utilizing coded data. - Designs and compiles special reports for analysis, management review, research purposes, and / or reporting requirements. - Designs and compiles special reports in response to internal and external requests in order to provide accessible data for reliable analysis. - Provide training/education to staff members utilizing various systems used for coding and abstracting, and other department specific system needs, in order to support robust and accurate data collection. - Provides education on data analyses to clinical program, hospital, and health sciences management and leadership, in order to support quality of care, financial goals, and accurate public profiling/reporting, including Core Measures, Patient Safety Indicators. - Develops and maintains effective collaborative working relationships with both internal and external clients, business partners, and vendors. - Handles special projects and creates special reports as needed. - Participates on data warehouse projects as needed. Knowledge / Skills / Abilities - Proficiency with ICD-9 and CPT code assignment. - Excellent written and verbal communications skills and attention to detail. - Demonstrated organizational skills. - Demonstrated analytical skills. - Demonstrated presentation skills. - Demonstrated human relation and effective communication skills. - Ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description. - Demonstrates knowledge of information technology, database systems, and data reporting tools. - Demonstrates proficiency using Microsoft Office and other IT applications. - Demonstrated experience in establishing working relationships. - Ability to multi-task and meet negotiated timelines. - Knowledge of relational database and query concepts. - Bachelorapos;s Degree in Health Information Management or equivalency. - American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) CCS certification. - Minimum eight years e
