JOB SUMMARY:
Title: Intern, Mechanical Engineering Location: USA-Utah-Salt Lake City Other Locations: We are seeking an engineering student to fill an Intern position for the Mechanical Design Engineering group to assist with technical tasks associated with Department of Defense (DoD) programs. The Intern position provides an opportunity for students currently pursuing a mechanical engineering degree to get hands-on experience working with engineers in a cutting edge electro-mechanical hardware environment. Mechanical design is focused on packaging electronic equipment into a variety of military platforms with very challenging environments. Design concerns include thermal, structural, vibration, humidity and reduced size, weight and power. The student engineer will be called upon to support a variety of hardware engineering activities in this fast-paced multidisciplinary engineering environment. Mechanical engineers at L-3 are involved in the entire design process, from bid amp; proposal, through design, manufacture, to product support. The Intern will be assigned to support one of many design engineering teams of 6 to 8 people. They will receive a variety of tasks in support of the team and will learn from other team members through formal and informal interactions. The Intern will also be assigned a mentor to provide guidance and to answer questions. Typical Intern activities may include, but are not limited to: * Product research and development * Trade studies * Thermal/structural/tolerance analyses * Test development and support * Technical presentations and peer reviews * Manufacturing documentation * Product build support * Test fixture design * Department software and hardware tool development Intern positions start at the end of the studentamp;#39;s Spring semester and, depending on performance and/or job availability, continues until the start of the studentamp;#39;s Fall semester. * The Intern engineer is required to work a minimum of 40 hours per week. * Due to the nature of our work this position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense security clearance. * This position requires the successful candidate to be a student currently enrolled in an accredited program leading to a degree in mechanical engineering. * Candidate must be at least a Junior in college with a minimum GPA of 3.0.
