University of Utah Health Care seeks staff that are committed to the values of compassion, collaboration, innovation, responsibility, diversity, integrity, quality and trust that are integral to our mission.    This position provides primary care and treatment Monday - Friday to preoperative patients, working independently and collaboratively with anesthesia and other medical staff in the Preoperative Assessment Clinic at Huntsman Cancer Hospital.    Responsibilities:    - Assesses the physical condition of preoperative patients by performing physical examinations and obtaining medical histories. Takes complex medical histories on patients referred for consultation by academic and community physicians.  - Orders, interprets and evaluates diagnostic labs, radiology studies and other procedures as indicated through assessment.  - Reviews all information, including faxed reports from outside physicians and pertinent studies for risk factors of post-op complications and communicates any pertinent findings to the attending physician.  - Formulates a plan as it relates to the patientapos;s co-morbidities and potential anesthetic, and perform preoperative chart reviews to evaluate prior anesthetic records.  - Coordinates and communicates the scheduling of preoperative studies and input requests for diagnostic procedures to patients and families by explaining the necessity and anticipated effects of anesthetic related procedures to the patient as well as arrange preoperative consultations with specialists as needed.  - Independently formulates and participates in the medical plan based on the patientapos;s condition with consultation from anesthesia, the primary surgical team, or primary care providers as it applies to the Preoperative Assessment Clinic.  - Assists in determining optimal timing for surgery and medically optimizing patients prior to surgery.  - Coordinates and communicates with the anesthesia attending regarding the results of studies that may change the course of surgery or anesthetic and arrange for follow-up, if cancellation or surgery necessary. Communicate directly with anesthesiologists and surgeons regarding the results and recommendations arising from the preoperative assessment through the use of the EMR applications.  - Provides follow up of all labs/procedures, and consults as orders in preoperative assessment clinic prior to surgery.  - Carefully identify and minimize patients with risk factors for preioperative complications and discuss final disposition and concerning findings with the attending physician.  - Initiates and/or recommends medical drug therapies or other forms of related therapeutic treatment and procedures in accordance with approved protocols/policy.  - Complies with medical records policies regarding the complete and accurate documentation of patient care. Initiates and maintains required records and legal documents.  - Remain current with evidenced based medicine to minimize risk factor
