JOB SUMMARY:
Title: RN Triage Nurse - Multiple Shifts (Murray, Utah)* Location: Utah-Salt Lake City Other Locations: Utah-Salt Lake City-Salt Lake City The Triage Nurse is a part of the health care team who provides virtual care to established patients. This position is a Registered Nurse who practices nursing via the telephone, utilizing the nursing process, input from physicians, and the organizationally approved telephone nursing guidelines and protocols. The functions of this position include electronic prescription renewal, triage to the most appropriate level of care, providing illness and injury advice and self-care intervention, identifying resources, consulting and referring, taking after-hour hospice calls and performing nurse follow-up activities. All duties and responsibilities fall within departmental and organizational guidelines and are within the scope of practice as defined by the Board of Registered Nursing and in compliance with state laws and medical nursing standards of care. A. Education 1. Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing required 2. Must possess and maintain a current RN license issued by the State of California Board of Registered Nurses, required B. Experience/Knowledge/Skills: 1. Three to five years of practical nursing experience 2. Ambulatory, outpatient or emergency room care experience preferred 3. One-two (1-2) years of practical experience as an RN in a physicianapos;apos;s office or medical office setting preferred 4. Demonstrated knowledge of the following: a. Scope of practice for RNapos;apos;s in the State of California b. Understanding of managed care concepts strongly recommended c. Medical symptomology and what constitutes urgent/emergent care d. Medical terminology and abbreviations e. Universal precautions f. Clinical protocols for vital signs g. Normal values for vital signs (BP, Pulse, Respirations, Temps) h. Medical positioning for patients i. Scheduling practices/referrals for physician offices preferred j. Effective teamwork practices between front and back office staff k. Professional knowledge of clinical nursing protocols with emphasis in the areas of disease processes, emergencies, health sciences and pharmacology 5. Demonstrated and proficient skills in all steps of the nursing process 6. Demonstrated high level of skill in creative problem solving, setting of priorities, and the ability to use these skills in an environment where the nature of patient inquiries, via telephone calls, is unpredictable 7. Excellent oral and written communication skills, interpersonal relationship skills, provision of care, and provision of advice and instruction via telephone 8. Customer service/people skills sufficient to deal with patients on the telephone who need reassurance and/or advice regarding health issues 9. Ability to effectively collaborate with other healthcare team members 10. Ability to work with a variety of personalities in the medical office setting 11. Ability to type and feel comfortable with clinical setting computer operations
