JOB SUMMARY:
Systems Maintenance Mechanic October 26, 2012 - November 25, 2012 Location: Salt Lake City, UT Salary Range: $14.86 to $27.45/hr Exempt/Non-Exempt: Non-Exempt Benefits: Strong benefit package including retirement and health plan options. Employment Type: Full Time Employer: University of Utah Description: Performs routine and preventative maintenance, analyzes mechanical and/or electrical problems, and makes adjustments, repairs, replacements, or other corrective actions to ensure the continuous and safe functioning of equipment in the specified area of expertise. Job Requirements: 1)Tools will need to be furnished at own expense prior to starting work. 2)The ability to be able to safely lift up to 100 pounds. 3)The ability to be able to climb ladders in excess of 20 ft. and be able to wear fall protection equipment. 4)The ability to wear and use a full face respirator. 5)The ability to work on roof tops and top of cooling towers and wear the fall protection equipment. 6)The ability to climb stairs up to 15 floors without assistance. 7)The ability to wear all Personal Protective equipment associated with the job duties including arc flash and insulating attire, safety glasses, face shields, insulation gloves, hearing protection, hard hats, air purifying respirators and any other PPE defined by OSHA and University policy. 8)Read and understand operations and maintenance manuals and safety training materials. 9)The ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions. University of Utah Job ID# PRN02831B, HVAC Shop Duties: 1. Operates, repairs, overhauls, services, and maintains equipment in the area of expertise. 2. Performs regularly scheduled preventive maintenance work on equipment. 3. Helps in designing and implementing mechanical or electrical alterations to new and existing equipment in order to improve efficiency, performance, and/or extend the life of equipment. 4. May ensure that equipment meets all regulatory compliance requirements mandated by local, state and federal agencies. 5. Maintains clean equipment rooms and other areas. 6. Maintains equipment performance and repair records. 7. If leadworker status is assigned, may give work direction, establish priorities, or instruct Systems Maintenance Mechanics or other personnel. Qualifications: Depending on the area of assignment, three years of maintenance and repair experience, or equivalency, in one or more of the following areas is required: pipefitting; heating, air conditioning, and steam-operated systems; pneumatic and electronic building control systems; plumbing and refrigeration systems; commercial/industrial laundry equipment; sterilizing equipment; gas/diesel engines and generators; kitchen and cafeteria equipment; mechanical and electrical troubleshooting; and welding. The ability to respond appropriately to emergency situations, effective human relations and communications skills, and demonstrated computer proficiency essential.
