JOB SUMMARY:
About the Job The Utah Scholars Program Specialist provides support for all aspects of the Utah Scholars program and the Outreach and Access department of the Utah System of Higher Education, including support for the Regents? and New Century Scholarships. This position regularly works with school personnel, students, parents, and community members. We are seeking someone with an interest in education who is looking for a dynamic place to work with opportunities for professional growth. Duties Include * Give Utah Scholars school presentations * Provide support to Utah Scholars schools and school personnel * Participate in outreach events such as 8th grade presentations, parent and scholarship nights, etc. * Manage the USI database * Provide support for the Regents' and New Century Scholarship programs, by answering inquiries and attending scholarship events * Participate in scholarship reviews * Assist in the planning and coordination of volunteer training and recognition events * Create and distribute monthly communications for Utah Scholars partner schools, and assist in the creation and distribution of monthly communication for Utah Scholars students * Provide support to the CACG and the StepUp to Higher Education campaign Requirements * Bachelor's degree * Experience and/or interest in public and/or higher education * Public speaking experience * Ability to represent the USHE in a professional manner * Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing * Ability to build rapport and trust with students, school personnel, and volunteers good customer service skills * Ability to work independently * Excellent time management, prioritization and follow-through skills * Organized and detail-oriented * Ability to learn quickly * Adaptable to varying responsibilities * Positive attitude * Self motivated Preferred * Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite * Skills in social media and/or website * Ability to speak, read, and write Spanish * Experience managing a database Schedule The qualified applicant will be required to work a standard schedule of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. This is full-time position is guaranteed through August 13, 2013 with a possibility of an extended employment beyond determined by grant reapplication approval. In-state travel is required.
