JOB SUMMARY:
Analytical Chemist Requisition # 5004475 This position oversees activities directly related to raw material verification process. These activities include developing, qualifying and implementing robust analytical methods for characterizing the purity of materials; coordinating sample analysis with external laboratories; and collaborating with external suppliers on test methodologies to ensure Merit product specifications are met. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS PERFORMED ? Designs and executes studies to approach unconventional analytical engineering problems that are difficult to define, and require innovative research techniques to develop novel solutions. ? Performs engineering analysis in instances where available precedents contain critical gaps, or may be lacking due to the unique character of the problem. ? Develops, qualifies, and implements analytical methods for characterizing the purity of materials. ? Coordinate sample analysis with external laboratories. ? Collaborates with external suppliers on test methodologies to ensure Merit product specifications are met. ? Leads analytical projects and initiatives to support sustaining engineering and RD projects. ? Serves as an analytical subject matter expert by keeping abreast of new developments (scientific methods, techniques, industry standards, regulations) affecting the organization, and formulating solutions to analytical complications. ? Generates, reviews, approves standardized inspection methods, and test procedures. ? Collaborates with external suppliers on developing test methodologies and certificates of analysis to ensure product specifications are met. ? Prepares and reviews analytical test methods, procedures, and specifications for dissemination within Merit and to external suppliers. ? Ensures that analytical results and reports represent a high standard of quality and comply with applicable procedures and regulations. ? Performs other related duties and tasks as required. SUMMARY OF MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS ? Education and/or experience equivalent to a Bachelor?s of Science degree in Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, or Chemical Engineering. ? Six years of analytical experience in a quality assurance, engineering, and/or laboratory setting. ? Comprehensive knowledge of chemicals and applications. ? Working knowledge of chemical test methods and equipment, including: o Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA) o Differential Scanning Calorimetery (DSC) o Gas Phase Chromatography (GPC) o Melt flow rheometery o Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FT-IR) o Ultra violet-Visual Spectroscopy (UV-VIS) o Chemical titration o XPS, SEM-EDS and other surface analytical methodologies ? Working knowledge of statistical methodologies. ? Excellent oral and written communication skills. ? Able to travel approximately 10% of work schedule. ? Demonstrated computer skills preferably spreadsheets, word processing, database and other applicable software programs.
