JOB SUMMARY:
Manager, RD Program Electronics Requisition # 700400 PROGRAM MANAGER, R D ELECTRONICS (700-4000) SUMMARY OF DUTIES This position manages and is responsible for the timely completion of Research and Development electronic projects where the product meets or exceeds its performance goals. This position balances the technical requirements of a senior engineering level with the timely delivery of business objectives. Conceives, plans and conducts research in problem areas of engineering of considerable scope and complexity. Is accountable for multiple projects and reports status regularly to management. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS PERFORMED ? Manages multiple product development projects to assure timely delivery of new or improved products which meet user needs. ? Creates, tracks, and meets project schedules, plans, and budgets. ? May act as project leader or oversee project leader activities. ? Monitors work performed by assigned department staff and assists staff in working on team projects. ? Provides technical advice and assistance to department staff and other departments related to product development and improvement. ? Reviews projects, protocols, drawings and documentation to assure they meet both internal (Merit) and external (professional) standards. ? Conducts complete and conceptually related studies to approach technical problems, whereas the problems are difficult to define, require unconventional or novel approaches and require sophisticated research techniques. ? Performs technical work where available guides and precedents contain critical gaps, are only partially related to the problem, or may be largely lacking due to the novel character of the project. ? Contributes inventions, new designs or techniques which are of material significance in the solution of specific problems. ? Keeps abreast of new scientific method and developments affecting the organization for the purpose of recommending changes in emphasis of programs or new design programs warranted by such developments. ? Perform as a technical staff specialist for the organization in the application of concepts, principles, molding processes and manufacturing techniques and/or assigned areas of responsibility. ? Plans, organizes and supervises the work of engineers and/or technicians. ? May provide input and direction to management on various issues. ? Works on special projects and creates prototypes. ? Manages department personnel by interviewing, hiring, training, evaluating job performance, disciplining, scheduling work and other related responsibilities. ? Performs a variety of other related tasks, as required. ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL/ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS ? Lifting -- Not to exceed 50 lbs. ? local practice may apply. ? Writing ? Sitting ? Standing ? Bending ? Vision ? Color perception ? Depth perception ? Reading ? Field of vision/peripheral ? Fine motor skills SUMMARY OF MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS ? Education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical (highly preferred) or Mechanical. ? A minimum of ten years of successful related electrical engineering experience in medical product testing and development or research and development, with five of those years being management experience. ? Ability to independently apply analytical skills, complex scientific technical principles and detailed knowledge in solving engineering problems and developing new products, techniques or designs. ? Demonstrated computer skills including autoCAD, 3D solid modelling, spreadsheets, word processing, database and other applicable software programs. ? Strong interpersonal and organizational skills and the ability to work effectively as a team member. ? Working knowledge of United States and international standards as applicable to the department.
