JOB SUMMARY:
Position Summary: Under the direction of the City of St. George Pretreatment Coordinator, enforces requirements contained in commercial food service establishments (FSE) discharge permits; conducts field inspections, investigations, and sampling of FSE discharges in support of the Fats, Oils, and Grease (FOG) Program in accordance with federal, state, and SGRWRF (St. George Regional Water Reclamation Facility) requirements and regulations; complies data and generates detailed reports for submission to the SGRWRF Pretreatment Coordinator; and serves as the primary liaison between the SGRWRF and FSEs using the sanitary sewer system. Typical Physical/Mental Demands/Working Conditions: Moderately physical activity. Required to push, pull, or lift medium to heavy weights. Intermittent sitting, standing, and walking. Moderate exposure to disagreeable elements such as heat, cold, odors, dust, fumes, and health and occupational hazards under controlled safety conditions. May be exposed to acids and corrosives as well as biological and radioactive agents during on-site inspections of commercial and industrial businesses. Exposure to raw sewage and highly toxic industrial waste. Intermittent exposure to stress as a result of human behavior. Travel to other City departments, schools, businesses and on-site inspections of residential, commercial, and industrial businesses. Qualifications Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Two (2) years of college coursework in chemistry, biology, environmental science, environmental engineering, or a related field and the ability to communicate in Spanish are preferred. License and/or Certifications: Must possess a valid driver license. A valid Utah Driver License must be obtained within 60 days of hire and be maintained throughout employment. Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities Knowledge of: * The principles and practices of commercial food service establishment (FSE) fats, oils, and grease (FOG) control and processes. * Environmental laws, regulations, policies, and procedures governing or related to pretreatment and industrial waste sampling. * Chemistry and biology as they relate to environmental issues. * Familiarity with plumbing and grease abatement technology, installation operation, and maintenance. Ability to: * Enforce pollution control laws, rules, and regulations with firmness and impartiality in a potentially hostile environment. * Interpret engineering plans for FSE grease abatement systems. * Perform scientific and investigative research and prepare reports. * Work effectively with government officials, industrial and commercial representatives, consultants, City employees, and the general public. * Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. * Exercise independent judgment and work with a minimum of supervision. * Read and write in English at a business level.
