The position is part of the IT organization led by the Chief Information Officer (CIO). The CIO is the principal advisor to the Under Secretary for Intellectual Property and Director, USPTO, on the application of IT to support and improve the Agency's business processes.
The Office of Infrastructure Engineering and Operations (IEO) provides day-to-day operational support for USPTO-developed applications. The Office maintains the USPTO data center facilities, production hardware, and telecommunications infrastructure.
The Infrastructure Services Division (ISD) provides Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) for the Servers, Storage, Networks and Facilities within the USPTO. The Division is responsible for all IT facility management services and all IT support for all equipment maintained within the data center, development lab, and backup facility (Boyers, PA).
The Facilities Operations Branch is responsible for providing disaster recovery support and planning, facility management services for all USPTO computer facilities to include physical environment and electrical support, as well as equipment management and tracking for all hardware devices in these facilities.
This Branch maintains the physical environments of all USPTO computer facilities including the installation and monitoring of electrical support and related equipment. Additional support is provided for monitoring the installed HVAC equipment and changing HVAC output requirements as needed for the installation of new computer equipment.
