Salem VA Medical Center (SVAMC) is seeking a Chief of Staff to join its experienced staff of executive leadership, physicians, and health professionals at the Medical Center.  The Chief of Staff is responsible to the medical center Director for the development, organization, implementation, and support of patient care, education, and research activities of the clinical and allied health services.  The Chief of Staff is the ranking medical official responsible for the quality of care and utilization of health care resources within the facility. 

Salem VA Medical Center, located in the Mid-Atlantic Health Care Network (VISN 6), is a Joint Commission accredited, complexity level 1C facility serving Veterans in southwestern Virginia.  SVAMC is located in Salem, Virginia with community based outpatient clinics in Lynchburg, Wytheville, Staunton, Danville, and Tazewell. SVAMC's primary service area includes 26 counties representing over 8,800 sq. miles with a population of over 112,500 Veterans. SVAMC provides primary care and specialty care with a broad scope of available clinical services. Comprehensive health care is provided through primary care, tertiary care and long-term care in areas of medicine, surgery, mental health, extended care and rehabilitation, spinal cord injury, and supportive and social services.

Salem VA Medical Center is a teaching hospital, providing a full range of patient care services, with state-of-the-art technology as well as education and research.  SVAMC maintains three active medical school affiliations with the University of Virginia School of Medicine, the Edward Via Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine, and the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine; nine academic affiliations with prominent regional Nursing Schools; and over 80 academic affiliations with various colleges and universities to promote the training of associated health professions.  In addition to our focus on Veteran care and our academic affiliates, Salem VA Medical Center has an active research and development program, which has been fully accredited for over a decade. The Medical Center currently has active research projects encompassing studies in the areas of endocrinology and metabolism, psychiatry & psychology, pulmonary disease, cardiology, nephrology, and infectious disease. SVAMC has participated in a number of VA Cooperative Programs in the past, and is presently involved with ongoing VA Cooperative studies.

The VA Medical Center of Salem, Virginia is located adjacent to Roanoke, both of which are nestled in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains of southwest Virginia.  The Salem & Roanoke metropolitan area provides its residents with a reasonable cost of living, affordable housing, low taxes, some of the finest public and private schools in Virginia, and many urban amenities traditionally expected of larger areas, including art and entertainment venues, museums and galleries, symphony, ballet, and competitive youth sports for the family.   In addition to the rich diversity of metropolitan experiences available to our residents, the Roanoke Valley also offers numerous opportunities for the outdoor enthusiast, including the Roanoke Star and its overlook of the Roanoke Valley, the Blue Ridge Parkway, the Appalachian Trail, Smith Mountain Lake, beautiful mountainside wineries and golf courses, and a variety of National parks and wildlife areas.

NOTE: Candidate's education and experience will be reviewed by a Compensation Panel in determining the salary of the applicant selected.  The recommended salary may be at any point in the range listed for this vacancy.
