Maintains maintenance staff job results by selecting, orienting, and training new employees; coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results. Ensures that Company and industry safety standards and procedures are followed. Maintains morale, motivation and positive employee relations.<BR><BR>ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS<BR> * Ensures that high standards of safety are developed, met, and maintained at maintenance facilities and during field delivery, repair and assessment activities. Acts rapidly and decisively to eliminate safety hazards. Continuously reviews and updates safety procedures as necessary.<BR> * Directs maintenance operations by initiating, coordinating, and enforcing program, operational, and personnel policies and procedures. Monitors, supports and maintains adherence to Company best practices to optimize the overall performance of the equipment shop and fleet.<BR> * Identifies current and future maintenance requirements by establishing rapport with management, production personnel, tradesmen, technicians, and other person in a position to understand maintenance requirements. Budgets and monitors maintenance costs continuously.<BR> * Designs, implements, and modifies preventative maintenance programs by reviewing production, quality control, and maintenance reports and statistics, inspecting operating machines, equipment, and systems for conformance with operational standards.<BR> * Ensures production operations by determining work priorities and scheduling repair, maintenance, and installation of machines, tools, and equipment.<BR> * Resolves maintenance, delivery, rental and lease issues by conferring with other management team members.<BR> * Supervises the coordination of daily equipment requirements with asphalt, grading, and construction foreman and supervises the arrangements for cost effective delivery.<BR> * Achieves financial objectives set forth within the annual maintenance budget. Schedules expenditures in line with budget priorities, analyzing variances from budget and initiates cost-saving and corrective action as necessary.<BR> * Achieves RONA target by monitoring equipment utilization and disposing of unused equipment; and by tracking equipment costs to determine whether to rebuild, replace, rent or lease equipment.<BR> * Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending in-house training and development programs, educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies.<BR> * Observes all safety standards and participates in the Company’s efforts to provide a safe work environment. Keeps work area clean and hazard free. Wears appropriate personal protective equipment – eye protection, hearing protectors, hard hat, safety vest, safety toe shoes or boots and respirator where required. Recognizes and corrects unsafe work practices and hazardous conditions or reports such conditions to appropriate personnel. Is aware of locations of material safety data sheets (MSDS) and refers to them when necessary.<BR> * Attends weekly toolbox meetings, rotating attendance between the maintenance staff, on-going construction sites, trucking dispatch and gravel pit production crews.<BR> * Maintains positive and constructive internal and external customer relations with key focus on daily working relationships with other Company managers and local equipment related vendors.<BR> * Performs other job related responsibilities and special projects as requested by the General Manager. Participate in Company committees as needed to improve operational performance. Travel occasionally for work related items.</font></td>
