               <td align="left"><font style="font-size: 100%;">VP Exempt Non Exclusive<BR><BR>          <b> TRIO STUDENT SUPPORT SERVICES ACADEMIC ADVISOR, MOSES LAKE, T / FT </b><BR>     <BR><b>JOB DESCRIPTION:</b><BR>The TRiO Student Support Services Academic Advisor will provide proactive recruiting and retention support for career, academic and transfer advising services for program participants.  The purpose of Student Support Services is to retain and graduate low income, first generation and disabled students.<BR><BR>This position reports to the Director of TRiO Student Support Services and works closely with Counseling, Financial Aid, Admissions/Registration and Disabled Student Services to provide services to students.<BR><BR><BR>ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:<BR>Primary essential duties and responsibilities include, but will NOT be limited to the following:<BR>*       Assists with recruitment, selection and orientation of new Student Support Services participants.  Accepts student referrals from college staff and faculty.<BR>*       Advise students on academic, career, financial aid and transfer planning through workshops and individual counseling/advising.  Maintains a caseload of students and monitors their academic success.  May assist students in completing scholarship, financial aid and college/university applications.<BR>*       Administers and interprets diagnostic/achievement tests and other measuring instruments used by the program.<BR>*       Coordinates mentor program and cultural activities.  Works closely with Student Activities, events and travel.  Produces the quarterly SSS Newsletter.<BR><BR><b>JOB REQUIREMENTS:</b><BR>*       Bachelor's degree in Counseling, Education or closely related field from a regionally accredited college or university.<BR>*       Minimum of two years' academic advising experience with the target population (first generation, financially disadvantaged and/or disabled student).<BR>*       Demonstrated experience working with TRiO-eligible students, multicultural populations or under-prepared students.<BR>*       Demonstrated experience working effectively in a multicultural environment.<BR><BR><b>PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:</b><BR>- Master's degree in Counseling, Education or closely related field from a regionally accredited college or university.<BR>- Bilingual Spanish/English strongly desired.<BR>- Excellent written and oral communication skills.  Ability to effectively present information in group or individual settings.<BR>- Ability to use computers and spreadsheets, database and word processing software such as Excel, Access, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook.<BR>- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and cooperatively in a diverse environment and have background similar to target population.<BR>- Knowledge of the purpose of TRiO Student Support Services and demonstrated bicultural experience.<BR><BR><BR><b>HOURS / DAYS / SCHEDULE:</b><BR>* Full-time, 9-month renewable contract - July, August and December non-scheduled months.<BR><BR><b>SALARY / WAGE / BENEFITS:</b> <BR>* $31,451 ($3,494.55 per month)  (pro-rated for first year).  Position dependent upon federal grant monies and other appropriate funding.  <BR><BR><b>CLOSING DATE / DEADLINE:</b> <BR>OPEN UNTIL FILLED, HOWEVER: REVIEW of applications will begin Wednesday, October 31, 2012.
