               <td align="left"><font style="font-size: 100%;">SUMMARY OF DUTIES:<BR>The closing date for this position has been extended from October 26, 2012, to November 2, 2012.  Incumbents in this classification are assigned to Road Operations or Traffic Sign Systems.  Road Operations employees operate a variety of specialized road maintenance/construction heavy equipment and perform work in maintenance, construction, traffic control, and other assigned Public Works activities.  Employees assigned to Traffic Sign Systems, perform the fabrication, installation and maintenance of Thurston County's traffic marking system that includes signs, striping, and pavement symbols/legends according to specifications.  Maintains sign inventory in the field as well as supply and enters data in CRIS. <BR><BR>May act as lead worker to other employees.  May train or provide instruction.  May check for completion of scheduled work.  Trains other personnel in the correct operation of road maintenance and construction equipment.  Provides technical support and assistance to traffic engineering staff by performing general engineering duties.  Promotes and exercises safe working procedures and practices.  Works with the public in a courteous and professional manner, providing information and answering questions.  Responsible for cleanliness and maintenance of assigned equipment.  Assists in on-site work direction.  Prepares and maintains daily work logs, inventory files and billings.  Responsible to understand and practice Hazardous Waste Management as defined by WAC 173-303.  When assigned, responsible for hazardous waste handling and disposal.  Performs other duties as assigned. <BR> <BR>QUALIFICATIONS:<BR>This position is covered by the Thurston County Fit for Work policy and will be subject to pre-employment, random, reasonable suspicion, and post accident drug and alcohol testing, and all other requirements of the policy. <BR><BR>High School Diploma or GED.  Three years experience in road maintenance, construction, traffic control maintenance, and heavy equipment operation.  Previous experience providing instruction, training and scheduling assignments of others.  Current Washington State Driver’s License or have requested and obtained an appropriate accommodation.  Must possess a valid First Aid Card.  Must possess valid Washington Traffic Flagging Card (or one must be obtained within three months of hire date).  A valid Washington State Class A, Commercial Driver’s License with air brake endorsement; special endorsements for tanker and hazardous materials must be obtained within six months of hire date.  <BR><BR>Road Operations: Must meet certification requirements in the Public Works equipment training program for Senior Maintenance Technician within probationary period of employment.<BR><BR>Traffic Sign Systems: International Municipal Signal Association Certification, Level 2 Signs and Markings.  Must achieve Level 3 within four years.<BR> <BR>DESIRED SKILLS:<BR>Knowledge of the Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices.  Knowledge of work zone safety and traffic control.  Knowledge of procedures and practices related to traffic control maintenance.<BR> <BR>SELECTION PROCESS:<BR>To be considered for this position, please submit the following: <BR> <BR>1 Application<BR>0  Letter of Interest<BR><BR>0 Supplemental Questionnaire<BR>0  Resume<BR><BR>0 Disclosure Form<BR><BR><BR>Submit application package to: Thurston County Information Desk, 2000 Lakeridge Dr. SW, Olympia, WA  98502.  Application package must be received by 5 p.m. on the closing date listed above.  Postmarks will not be accepted.  Electronically submitted application packages will not be accepted.<BR>APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS:  <BR>A separate application must be fully completed for EACH POSITION for which you are applying.
