               <td align="left"><font style="font-size: 100%;">Coding Specialist - Inpatient<BR> <BR>Department Health Information Services<BR> <BR>Location Downtown Portland<BR> <BR>Work Unit Description <BR> <BR> <BR> <BR>Work Schedule, Hours, FTE, Salary Range <BR> <BR> This is a full-time (1.0 FTE) position working a variable schedule Monday - Friday. The salary range for this position is $19.26 - $26.07/hour. This position is located downtown Portland.<BR> <BR>Functions/Duties of Position <BR> <BR> This position is to code & abstract inpatient hospital medical information, including final diagnoses & procedures, from discharged patient's electronic medical records for financial reimbursement, research & statistical purposes. Code procedures using ICD9 diagnosis and procedure coding for MSDRGs. Health Information Management department maintains patient medical records for patient care, legal, statistical & billing purposes. Services of HIM are provided to physicians, medical & nursing students, patients, nurses, administrators, ancillary departments, insurance carriers, clinics, Hospital, Family Practice Group, CDRC & other OHSU departments. HIM supports OHSU mission by maintaining a quality medical record used in research, education & patient care practices.<BR> <BR>Job Requirements <BR> <BR> Qualified candidates will demonstrate experience coding DRGs. Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS). Two (2) years acute care hospital experience with ICD-9-CM coding. Completion of Medical Records Coding course through an accredited college or university OR an equivalent combination of experience and training. Experience with computerized medical record encoder. Thorough knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology and medical science; working knowledge of Inpatient Prospective Payment System and Diagnostic Related Groups. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Ability to analyze & evaluate medical records for coding purposes and make appropriate decisions.
