<td align="left"><font style="font-size: 100%;">Laboratory Assistant<BR> <BR>Department Pathology<BR> <BR>Location DH 5022<BR> <BR>Work Unit Description <BR> <BR> <BR> <BR>Work Schedule, Hours, FTE, Salary Range <BR> <BR> This is a full-time (1.0 FTE) position working Monday-Friday, 8:30am - 5:00pm. The salary range for this position is $14.04 - 18.75/hour. This position is located on the Marquam Hill Campus.<BR> <BR>Functions/Duties of Position <BR> <BR> The purpose of this position is to provide technical support for patient care activities in the laboratory by performing client services functions, sample processing, resulting, billing filing, and simple laboratory procedures.<BR> <BR>Job Requirements <BR> <BR> High school diploma; one (1) year each college level science and math or computer courses. Training or experience demonstrating the a) knowledge of basic laboratory techniques; b) knowledge of laboratory terminology, equipment, and materials; c) knowledge of basic math; d) ability to follow formulas accurately; e) ability to handle, package, and store laboratory specimens and materials; f) ability to operate and maintain standard laboratory equipment; g) ability to learn routine testing methods, procedures, and techniques; h) ability to keep accurate records in conformance with laboratory procedures; and i) ability to follow written and verbal procedures (instructions). Job related knowledge, skills and abilites: a) General knowledge of laboratory terminology, equipment, materials, techniques and safety. b) Skill in handling laboratory specimens, ensuring their completeness and documentation of same c) Skill in using the hospital and laboratory computer systems d) Ability and willingness to follow written and oral instructions accurately e) Ability to recognize and initiate procedures and policies to improve work flow and accuracy f) Ability to demonstrate performance of job duties to trainees g) Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with a variety of clients, including physicians, nurses, pathology employees, Material Transportation employees, outside customers, and maintain a customer service focus at all times. h) Ability to work independently within established guidelines, to adjust to rapidly changing priorities, and to communicate and work effectively within a group. Preferred: Experience in a clinical laboratory including sample receipt and processing, customer service, multi-line phone use, and billing.<BR> <BR>Additional Details <BR> <BR> Positions in the laboratory and environs may require working flexible schedules including nights weekends and holidays; working at multiple laboratory or hospital sites; traveling between laboratories and sites by stairs, elevator, tram, shuttle or other means; exposure to blood and body fluids, chemical hazards, radiation; working in a somewhat noisy and crowded environment; wearing gloves and other Personal Protective Equipment for long periods of time; experiencing occasional temperature control problems in building.
