Projects involve studies of CFTR, the causative defect in cystic fibrosis, and aquaporin water channels that play a role in renal, CNS and systemic disorders. Experimental systems include cell free protein expression to incorporate non-native amino acids that serve as probes for investigating nascent polypeptide folding and structure. In vitro synthesized proteins are then characterized by biochemical and biophysical approaches to define how ER translocation/chaperone machinery facilitates protein movement across, and integration into, the lipid bilayer during early stages of cotranslational folding. Long-term goals are to identify specific biogenesis events that are disrupted by disease-related mutations, and their mechanisms of correction by small molecules identified in high throughput screens. The position is for a minimum of two years with potential for extension through independent funding opportunities.

Job Requirements

* Doctorate degree (Ph.D. and/or MD)
* A strong background cell biology, protein biochemistry and molecular biology
* Experience in biophysics/fluorescence spectroscopy is encouraged

Additional Details

How To Apply

Apply here online.
