               <td align="left"><font style="font-size: 100%;">Relief Laboratory Assistant<BR> <BR>Department Pathology<BR> <BR>Location DH 6024<BR> <BR>Work Unit Description <BR> <BR> <BR> <BR>Work Schedule, Hours, FTE, Salary Range <BR> <BR> Relief, occasional as needed; Salary Range: $14.04-18.75/hr; Location: Marquam Hill.<BR> <BR>Functions/Duties of Position <BR> <BR> The purpose of this position is to provide technical support for patient care activities in the laboratory by performing client services functions, sample processing, resulting, billing filing, and simple laboratory procedures.<BR> <BR>Job Requirements <BR> <BR> Required: High school diploma and at least two years of college lab science courses, plus one year of college math or computer courses. OR High school diploma and two years of clinical lab experience OR High school diploma and successful completion of a Lab Assistant Training Program including clinical lab experience. Additionally, applicant must have training or experience demonstrating the a) knowledge of basic laboratory techniques; b) knowledge of laboratory terminology, equipment, and materials; c) knowledge of basic math; d) ability to follow formulas accurately; e) ability to handle, package, and store laboratory specimens and materials; f) ability to operate and maintain standard laboratory equipment; g) ability to learn routine testing methods, procedures, and techniques; h) ability to keep accurate records in conformance with laboratory procedures; i) ability to follow written and verbal procedures(instructions); j) has demonstrated exceptional customer service and telephone communication skills.<BR> <BR>Additional Details <BR> <BR> Positions in the laboratory and environs may require working flexible schedules including nights weekends and holidays; working at multiple laboratory or hospital sites; traveling between laboratories and sites by stairs, elevator, tram, shuttle or other means; exposure to blood and body fluids, chemical hazards, radiation; working in a somewhat noisy and crowded environment; wearing gloves and other Personal Protective Equipment for long periods of time; experiencing occasional temperature fluctuations in building. Positions in laboratory departments require the ability to carry and lift up to 30 lbs.; ability to stand or sit for 4-8 hours depending on the tasks assigned; ability to bend, reach, and carry as required for assigned tasks; ability to utilize simple and complicated laboratory equipment and computers; ability to utilize multi-line phones, pagers, dictation equipment, and office equipment.
