The salary range for this position is $14.04 - $18.75/hour. This position is located at Marquam Hill.<BR> <BR>Functions/Duties of Position <BR> <BR> The purpose of this position is to support the hospital and departmental mission by providing laboratory assistant support for the patient care activities of the Surgical Pathology Division, Department of Pathology. This is accomplished by assisting in the assessment, recording, documentation, preparation, storage, and proper disposal of specimens submitted for histologic and cytologic examination. This and other support is accomplished by performing assigned tasks and projects, as well as actively seeking additional shared support activities on an as needed basis and as assigned by the Lead Worker and Manager.<BR> <BR>Job Requirements <BR> <BR> Required: High school diploma and at least two (2) years of college science courses plus one (1) year of college math or computer courses. Or High school diploma and successful completion of a lab Assistant Training Program including clinical lab experience. Training or experience demonstrating thea) knowledge of basic laboratory techniques; b) knowledge of laboratory terminology, equipment, and materials; c) knowledge of basic math; d) ability to follow formulas accurately; e) ability to handle, package, and store laboratory specimens and materials; f) ability to operate and maintain standard laboratory equipment; g) ability to learn routinetesting methods, procedures, and techniques; h) ability to keep accurate records in conformance withlaboratory procedures; and i) ability to follow written and verbal procedures (instructions).a) General knowledge of laboratory terminology, equipment, materials, techniques and safety.b) Skill in handling laboratory specimens, ensuring their completeness and documentation of samec) Skill in using the hospital and laboratory computer systemsd) Ability and willingness to follow written and oral instructions accuratelye) Ability to recognize and initiate procedures and policies to improve work flow and accuracyf) Ability to demonstrate performance of job duties to traineesg) Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with a variety of clients, including physicians, nurses, pathologyemployees, Material Transportation employees, outside customers, and maintain a customer service focusat all times.h) Ability to work independently within established guidelines, to adjust to rapidly changing priorities, and to communicate and work effectively within a group.
