This individual will support the UW?s Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) Post-Approval Monitoring Program (PAM) by ensuring compliance with federal regulations and University policies as they relate to the housing and use of live vertebrate animals for research, teaching or testing.<BR><BR>This position is responsible for assuring, through on-site monitoring, that Principal Investigators? (PIs) obligations to applicable federal regulations are being fulfilled, including that procedures are being conducted in accordance with approved animal use protocols, that the facilities being used in support of the animal work meet required regulations and standards, and that the University?s obligations to sponsors (i.e., funding agencies) are being met. This position will directly contribute to (and be accountable for) creating and sustaining a culture of service, accountability, and excellence within the Office of Animal Welfare.<BR><BR>Due to the wide range of research proposed by University faculty, the person in this position will be required to integrate laws, regulations, policies and recommendations from many sources. The laws and regulations are complex and application may vary relative to the approximately 50 different species being used. This employee will perform visits to approximately 150 laboratories with wide ranging research activities that may include behavioral studies, fisheries studies, neuroscience studies, etc. This position will primarily focus on rodent research models but must be familiar with the scope of species utilized across the UW animal care and research program.<BR><BR>The position has major responsibility in aiding with oversight of the University?s Animal Care and Use Program, particularly with regards to review of animal use proposals and inspections of research laboratories.<BR><BR>This position is accountable for the performance of duties which have a direct impact on the University?s continued accreditation by the Association for the Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care, Int.
