The energetic person we seek will gain hands-on experience in multiple areas. The DBA will develop, deploy, improve, and maintain new and existing applications to users via a yet-to-be-developed web-server using the existing Ingres database (via eClient) and/or a different yet-to-be-determined Relational Database Management System (RDBMS) environment. Existing staff will assist the DBA with learning the specifics of administering an Ingres SQL RDBMS; the maintenance and improvement of existing applications written in OpenROAD; and the maintenance of existing C-shell scripts. This position is responsible for APL?s mission-critical Financial database.<BR><BR>Development/Programming:<BR><BR>* Design, test, and implement complex application projects from beginning to end.<BR><BR>* Research, evaluate and recommend a next generation RDBMS for the APL financial/business environment.<BR><BR>* Troubleshoot and resolve program/system problems quickly and efficiently.<BR><BR>* Develop, maintain, and perform various data loads and extract, transform & load (ETL) processes.<BR><BR>* Update database applications, processes, shell scripts, and stored procedures.<BR><BR>* Resolve any technical communication issues with other Laboratory and UW databases to import and export data.<BR><BR>Administer Databases:<BR><BR>* Install, maintain, and manage production, test, and development database environments. Install and test software upgrades and patches. Monitor and tune database performance, storage, and back-up/recovery capacity.
