The Research Scientist/Engineer Principal provides technical direction and supervisory oversight for those activities performed by the Clinical Microbiology Laboratory that support laboratory testing and development of improved diagnostic methods on specimens submitted from immunocompromised patients and the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance, both in- and out-patients; clinical consultations to SCCA and UW Medicine physicians and staff, including patient care support services such as gene cell therapy, infection control, and nuclear medicine, on matters related to microbiology laboratory test selection and interpretation; develops or updates new testing methods required to provide the highest quality support services to SCCA and UW Medicine patients. Participates in the training and management of a large staff of technical personnel with expertise and area-specific methods and technologies relevant to the diagnosis of bacterial, fungal, and parasitic diseases; leads plate rounds in laboratories in the division; participates in the training of doctoral level residents and fellows; works independently in designing laboratory protoc                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        </font></td>
