This is a full time appointment with an expected duration of 10 months.<BR>The research scientist will work on a project limited basis with a large analytical chemistry laboratory to perform the following tasks under general supervision:<BR><BR><BR>* Perform analytical procedures following established protocols and in various matrices, that include occupational health samples, environmental samples, bio hazardous biological fluids and tissues. <BR><BR>* Carry out routine, sometimes high-volume, sample preparation for sample sets of various size involving solid phase extraction, solvent extractions, chromatographic purification, derivatization, and sample concentration. Many analyses are for trace-level contaminants and in any case, all require attention to detail to achieve quality control goals.<BR><BR>* Operate various computer-controlled instruments: GC, GC-MS, HPLC, HPLC-MS-MS, FTIR, ICP-MS.<BR><BR>* Perform routine instrument calibration/maintenance and minor trouble-shooting.<BR><BR>* Analyze and manipulate analytical data and prepare written reports of analytical activities.<BR><BR>* Other duties as required.<BR>Requirements:<BR>BS in chemistry or related field. One year in a laboratory setting. Hands-on experience with analytical instrumentation (e.g. GC, LC, ICPMS); familiar with Excel and Word software; working knowledge of common operations in Windows OS; basic knowledge of statistics; working knowledge of quantitative analysis; Excellent interpersonal, organizational, analytical, and communication skills.<BR>Desired:<BR>Experience with GC-MS, LC-MS, pesticide residue, small molecule, and/or metabolite analysis. Working knowledge of Mac OS.
