Local organization in downtown Spokane assisting with housing is seeking two Housing Counselors to provide counseling services for homeowners and prospective homeowners in accordance with HUD regulations and Agency policies and procedures. Services include mortgage default and foreclosure prevention counseling, pre-purchase counseling and education, and Home Equity Conversion Mortgage (HECM) counseling. Monitors case outcomes, maintains appropriate documentation, and prepares related reports. JOB REQUIREMENTS: -BA degree and 3 yrs of exp. that demonstrates required knowledge, skills, & abilities for this position, including exp. within housing industry. Additional exp. may be substituted year-for-year for education. Must be prepared and able to demonstrate the following qualifications at time of referral A? Ability to empathize with & advocate for low-income & vulnerable people, & maintain confidentiality with personal information A? Understanding of mortgage lending, underwriting, & loan processing A? Knowledge of HUD programs including loss mitigation, first-time homebuyer programs & Home Equity Conversion Mortgages A? Knowledge of the foreclosure process, time frames and remedies A? Ability to coordinate loan closings involving multiple funding sources while meeting detailed program eligibility criteria A? Ability to set up individual case plans for program participants, outlining issues, options, and solutions for addressing housing needs & emergencies A? Knowledge about community resources & programs for referral purposes A? Ability to negotiate on behalf of clients A? Proficient in computer operations, including word processing, spreadsheet, & database applications A? Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with emphasis on effectively working in a team environment with a diverse population A? Work independently, using initiative and judgment to resolve problems & ensure workflow is appropriately addressed in timely manner PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: BA degree and 5 yrs of exp. in mortgage or consumer lending industry. Experience in a social service or other related setting. Certified housing counselor preferred Certified to teach Homebuyer Education by the Washington State Housing Finance Commission preferred - Employer prefers National Career Readiness Certification.
