The purpose of the Mine Safety and Health Administration is to prevent death, disease, and injury from mining and to promote safe and healthful workplaces for the Nation's miners.This position is in the Approval and Certification Center, Applied Engineering Division (AED) located in Triadelphia, WV. The Division is responsible for assisting Coal Mine Safety and Health (Coal) and Metal and Nonmetal Mine Safety and Health (Metal) in carrying out the mandates of the Federal Mine Safety and Health Act of 1977 related to accidents and fatalities in the mining industry. The function and mission of the Applied Engineering Division is to participate in accident investigations to determine the cause of accidents, develop and provide short-term engineering controls and solutions to reduce accidents, conduct analyses and evaluations of accident and injury data to identify solutions to effect downward trends in accidents and injuries.
