POSITION SUMMARY:
The Operating Room (OR) staff nurse is a Registered Nurse (RN) who is responsible for nursing care in the neurosurgical OR suite. Position is at Travis Air Force Base as part of a joint venture between the Department of Defense (DoD) and the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to provide a Neurosurgery program for VA and DoD beneficiaries. The OR Staff Nurse is responsible for a full range of duties, utilizing the nursing process, in the operating room to include but not limited to circulating duties and full spectrum management of the surgical portion of the neurosurgery practice. The OR staff RN will be responsible for maintenance of room and field sterility during the OR case, for proper preparation and assembly of surgical specialty instrument trays, and for maintenance of preference cards. The OR staff RN will be primary RN for all neurosurgery cases and will additionally circulate for other OR cases.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
The incumbent is a graduate from a NLN accredited School of Nursing and maintains unrestricted licensure by a State Board of Nursing as a Registered Nurse. A Bachelors degree in Nursing is preferred. One (1) year of recent operating room experience required. BLS and ACLS certification is mandatory. Specialty certification (CNOR) is desirable.
