The mission of the VISN 19 MIRECC is to study suicide with the goal of reducing suicidality in the veteran population. To carry out this mission members of the VISN 19 MIRECC will:
1) Focus on cognitive and neurobiological underpinnings that may contribute to suicidality.
2) Develop evidence-based educational and clinical materials to identify and optimally treat veterans who are suicidal.
3) Provide consultation regarding assessment and treatment planning for highly suicidal veterans.
4) Mentor researchers in the area of suicidology.
5) Collaborate with others in the study and treatment of veterans who are at risk of suicide.
The incumbent serves as the Director of Education for the VISN 19 Mental Illness Research Education and Clinical Center. This position reports directly to the Director of the VISN 19 MIRECC. Responsibilities are complex in scope, and include the delegated authority to determine long range work plans and assure that implementation of the goals and objectives of the VISN 19 MIRECC are carried out. Duties are exercised with wide latitude, autonomy, and independence. In addition, the incumbent serves as the MIRECC consultant to the Executive Leadership Team at the Eastern Colorado Health Care System as well as other top management officials within VISN 19 and at the national level.
