The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) manages the exploration and development of the nation's offshore resources. It seeks to appropriately balance economic development, energy independence, and environmental protection through oil and gas leases, renewable energy development and environmental reviews and studies.
This position is located in the Mapping and Automation Section, Office of Leasing and Plans. If selected for this position, you will serve as a Geographic Information System (GIS) Specialist developing, maintaining, and updating high-quality GIS-derived spatial data, maps, tables, graphs, non-spatial databases, charts, metadata, and special GIS projects. You will develop and maintain up-to-date digital data sets and metadata using Bureau standard databases and GIS utilities. You will compile spatial and non-spatial data from a variety of sources including the use of complex SQL queries on Bureau data sets and data sets from non-Bureau sources. You will work independently and within a team environment to create GIS products using ESRIs GIS software suite. Project preparation includes working with a wide variety of disciplines and subject matter experts to define outputs and requirements and you will work with others GIS specialist to translate requirements into solutions. You will develop spatial data overlays and comparisons, perform geospatial analysis, and develop and maintain links between various databases. You may be called upon to automate certain business processes and create custom applications using macros and scripting languages such as Visual Basic, SML, Python, and Avenue.

This is a permanent full-time position and is located in Jefferson, LA.
