You probably learned in elementary school that Topeka was the capital city of Kansas.  But we’re so much more!

In fact, Kiplinger’s Personal Finance Magazine named Topeka one of the top ten cities for the next decade in 2010.  Topeka’s been recognized for affordable housing, a lively arts community, a healthy community, and a city where citizens believe their well-being ranks #30 in the nation.

There’s new energy and a new outlook in Topeka.  The citizens have adopted a strategic plan for the community (see Heartland Visioning) and results are happening.  Our young professionals are finding lots to do in formal and informal groups. Take a look at our new arts district, our new Kansas Children’s Discovery Center, new swimming pools and ball diamonds, new businesses and commerce parks and a plan to revitalize the downtown.  Farmer’s markets are plentiful, robotics and an international baccalaureate are being introduced in the schools and citizens are taking an active role as volunteers all over the city. 

There’s always something to do—from First Friday Art Walks, to Top City Thursdays in downtown to myriad performances by local and touring artists.  If playing sports is your thing, there’s plenty of opportunity, or you can go watch indoor football and ice hockey or catch your favorite professional, collegiate or youth event.  And of course you can always gather with friends and family in one of our many parks or take in a dinner at one of our many local, and not-so-local restaurants.
