This position is with the U.S. Department of Labor/Occupational Safety and Health Administration Springfield Area Office. The incumbent of this position conducts inspections within assigned geographic boundaries of a variety of privately owned industrial, commercial, and construction business establishments which employ specialized, complex work practices. The incumbent determines compliance with published standards, citations for violations, proposes fiscal penalties, and provides technical assistance to employers and employees to achieve safe working environments.

 

Selective Factor: In order to qualify for this position, applicants must possess at least one year of specialized experience or graduate level education (for the GS-9 and GS-11 levels) in the field of construction safety. Applicants must demonstrate experience working in a heavy construction trade such as electrical, iron, welding, steel erection, heavy equipment operation, carpentry, plumbing, pipe fitting, pile driving, etc. on construction sites/projects such as: high rise steel or concrete structures, heavy highway/bridge, underground excavation, etc. where multiple trades and heavy equipment are present.

 

This position has promotion potential to the grade of GS-12. This position is inside the Bargaining Unit.
