There is currently a vacancy for a full-time Registered Nurse as staff nurse in Ambulatory Surgery.  The Ambulatory Surgery Staff Nurse is a registered nurse who utilizes the nursing process to provide direct patient care in the Ambulatory Care setting, pre-operatively and post-operatively.  The incumbent will conduct pre-operative interviews, prepare patient medical records/charts prior to surgery ensuring all components are present and complete, and conduct post-operative patient follow-up phone calls, as needed.  The nurse will rotate between the Ambulatory Surgery and the Pre-Op clinic.  The nurse rotates to other patient care areas as assigned by the Nurse Manager upon completion of orientation in that area.  The tour of duty is eight hour days, Monday through Friday; the shifts will rotate between 6:00AM-2:30 PM and 10:00 AM-6:30 PM.  The nurse reports the to nurse manager of the unit. 

First area of consideration will be given to permanent Kansas city VAMC employees.  Internal and External Candidates will be considered.   This announcement may be used to fill identical positions vacated within 6 months of any selections made from the original announcement. 

Salary and grade will be determined upon qualifications and experience.
