There is currently a vacancy for a full time Clinical Nurse Leader (CNL) in the Mental Health Service Line. The population of male and female veterans served ranges from the adult, age 18, to the elderly adult, age 65 and over. There is a large outpatient psychiatric population, with admissions for medical comorbidities. KCVA is a major interdisciplinary teaching facility, serving medical, surgical and neurological inpatients and outpatients.
The CNL is a masters prepared generalist who oversees the care for a distinct group of patients and actively provides direct patient care in complex situations. This clinician puts evidence-based practice into action, collects and evaluates patient outcomes, assesses cohort risk, and has the decision-making authority to change care plans when necessary. The CNL communicates, plans, and implements care directly with other health care professionals, including physicians, pharmacists, social workers, clinical nurse specialists and nurse practitioners. The CNL provides clinical leadership across all specialties at the microsystems level. The incumbents role as CNL for this unit includes but is not limited to: care coordinator, educator, change agent, and advocate.
The Kansas City Veterans Affairs Medical Center is a tertiary care facility and is classified as a Clinical Referral Level I Facility. It is a teaching hospital providing a full range of patient services, with state-of-the-art technology as well as education and research. Comprehensive health care is provided through primary care and tertiary care in subspecialty medicine, surgery, psychiatry, physical medicine and rehabilitation. Kansas City is a major metropolitan area with a low cost of living and some of the most affordable housing in the nation. The area has been designated one of the most "livable" cities in the United States, with an excellent school system, attractive parkways, gardens, and Plazas. The "City of Fountains" offers big city attractions including NASCAR, major league sports, housing festivals, superb visual and performing arts, and great jazz.
Salary and grade will be determined upon qualifications and experience.
