WHAT IS THE INTERNAL REVENUE SERVICE (IRS)? The IRS is a bureau of the Department of the Treasury and one of the world's most efficient tax administrators. Yearly, the IRS collects more than $2 trillion in revenue and processes over 200 million tax returns. The IRS Mission is to provide the United States taxpayers top quality service by helping them understand and meet their tax responsibilities and by applying the tax law with integrity and fairness to all. WHAT DOES AN PHYSICAL SECURITY SPECIALIST DO? The IRS employs Security Specialist in three areas: Physical Security, Information Security and Personnel Security. As a Security Specialist you determine whether to grant, deny, revoke, suspend or restrict access to electronic systems or to IRS offices. You ensure the security and integrity of these systems for IRS and Treasury employees, contract employees and visitors to IRS facilities. and security installation projects. You ensure compliance with FISMA and NIST by conducting reviews, scans, etc.
WHAT IS THE AGENCY WIDE SHARED SERVICES DIVISION? AWSS customers are IRS employees - it provides a very broad array of complex administrative support services to every IRS employee. This list of essential services includes responsibility for real estate, facilities management, occupational safety, records and files management, career learning centers, travel services, contracts and procurement, and administering Equal Employment Opportunity programs and processes.
