The Amarillo VA Health Care System, Amarillo, Texas, currently has a vacancy for the position of Chief of Medical Service. We are seeking an exceptional physician with strong leadership and administrative skills. Primary responsibility will be the supervision and management of the Internal Medicine department within the AVAHCS.
The AVAHCS currently offers general medical and surgical inpatient care, day surgery, long term care, primary and specialty care, mental health services, and substance abuse treatment to a population of approximately 80,000 veterans in a primary service area that includes the Texas and Oklahoma panhandles, eastern New Mexico, and southeast Kansas.
The AVAHCS currently has 55 total operating hospital beds. Our hospital ADC for FY11 averaged 25. Our ICU consists of 14 beds and we have 120 operating Community Living Center beds. Total patients treated through FY11 was 26,410 with outpatient visits totaling 262,917. We have a $140+ million annual budget.
The AVAHCS provides an active teaching environment for medical students and residents through a formal affiliation with Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center. The rotation includes residents in Internal Medicine, Family Practice and Specialty Care. Other affiliations provide a variety of educational opportunities in pharmacy, optometry, nursing and various allied health programs.
