The Acute Medicine nurse is a professional who manages the care of the acutely ill patient with problems in medical, oncology, and rehab needs through collaboration with nursing staff, physicians and other health care providers. The nurse coordinates and facilitates care to restore stability, minimizing complications, and achieve optimal patient outcomes within a dynamic, acute care environment. In order to accomplish this, the professional nurse uses the nursing process in the facilitation and coordination of care for patients with a team of care givers.
The Acute Medicine staff nurse is a registered professional nurse who is accountable for the provision of patient care on Inpatient Acute Medicine and is directly responsible to the Nurse Manager. He/she must demonstrate the ability to work effectively as a team member and must be able to communicate, listen, report and gather crucial data in a manner that enhances patient outcomes and utilize the computer charting system.
The Acute Medicine Unit supports professional growth through education activities, attendance and participation on unit or hospital committees, Quality Improvement projects, or membership in professional organizations
