This position located at the National Foreign Affairs Training Center, is in the Business Applications Division, School of Applied Information Technology, Foreign Service Institute. The School of Applied Information Technology is responsible for meeting the development and training needs of the Department's employees (and employees of other Federal agencies) involved in the management, maintenance, and use of information technology services and equipment. The curriculum of the School includes 1) training designed to meet the needs of professional Information Systems Managers, Information Management Specialists, Communications Officers, Electronics Officers, and other technical specialists, and 2) training designed to meet the non-technical needs of the end-users of the information technology services provided through software applications of the technology base. Extensive training is also provided on-site at overseas posts. The incumbent of this position utilizes knowledge of computer technology and operations and a practical knowledge of training and instructional methods involved in serving as the instructor of specialized information technology courses to officers and staff of the Foreign Service and Civil Service throughout the Department and overseas. These courses cover both commercial off-the-shelf software such as the Microsoft Office Suite, MS SharePoint, MS Project, MS Visio, and Adobe Connect as well as custom applications which have been developed by and/or for specific State Department functions and activities, such as SIPRNet and SMART.
