The Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) is responsible for ensuring safety of the Nation's passenger and freight rail operations and infrastructure by promoting safe, efficient and accessible rail transportation. The mission and focus of FRA has grown to include the design and management of an unprecedented investment in the creation of a nationwide passenger rail network. FRA is providing leadership for the creation of a more balanced transportation system, transforming the way Americans travel.
This position serves as a Deputy Regional Administrator for a Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) region. In this capacity, the Deputy Regional Administrator plans, develops, coordinates, and directs programs within the region in support of FRA objectives, policies, and missions; provides managerial direction and technical guidance over subordinate field elements and employees; serves as an advisor to the Regional Administrator on regional issues, pertaining to safety related or administrative programs; makes recommendations on the assignment and use of the region's resources based on analysis of data from FRA's safety databases and other considerations; and assures all data/reports requested by FRA Headquarters are submitted by the required deadlines and in accordance with current instructions and policies.
The ideal candidate for this position is a mid- to- senior level applicant who has experience in railroad operations or non-highway ground transportation operations; as well as, possesses knowledge of issues affecting railroad safety to develop and initiate new railroad safety programs and evaluate existing railroad safety programs. Experience as an effective team member or leader who has performed analytical investigations and special studies and make recommendations to improve railroad safety is also desirable.
