Viera is located on the east coast of Florida, near Melbourne. It has benefits of a coastal town and nearby big cities of Orlando and Daytona. The Viera VA Clinic serves approximately 22,000 veterans per year and the Mental Health department serves approximately 6,000 veterans per year. An applicant psychiatrist would be joining a growing mental health department of 3 psychiatrists, 4 mid level psychiatric providers and 8 psychologists who are currently on staff. There are academic opportunities to be involved with the University of Central Florida College of Medicine in medical student teaching and eventually resident teaching. Research opportunities are also available through Orlando VA Medical Center.
