This position is located at the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Indian Head Division, (NSWC IHD) Research, Development, Test & Evaluation Department (R), Research & Technology Division (R1), Dynamics & Diagnostics Branch (R12).
The branch focuses on understanding the fundamental characteristics of energetic materials systems for advanced warhead and platform systems. The branch focuses on shock and detonation physics, reaction dynamics, and instrumentation development. A central focus of all branch research involves development and implementation of diagnostics with theoretical and modeling support for experimental studies and novel applications of energetics. The branch is a center of expertise associated with shock physics, detonation physics, constitutive properties, propellant/explosive initiation and combustion, reaction dynamics and ship and aircraft infrared antimissile defense. The branch develops and applies new diagnostic technologies for evaluation of existing items and those under development and to further modeling and simulation capability; research is conducted in experimental test design to determine dynamic properties of energetic materials.
