This position will be located in the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), National Environmental Satellite, Data & Information Service (NESDIS), Office of Satellite and Product Operation (OSPO), Mission Operations Division, Engineering Branch located in Suitland, Maryland.
The Office of Satellite and Product Operations (OSPO) manages and directs NOAA’s 24x7 environmental satellite operations, acquisition, product development and the distribution of environmental data and derived products to domestic and foreign users, and associated services. The environmental data, products and services are used to support analyses for environmental watches, warnings, forecasts and long-term climate analyses. The OSPO works with the Office of Systems Development, the Center for Satellite Applications and Research, and satellite acquisition programs in planning and developing new satellites, ground systems, supporting the transition of research products to operations, and major modifications of existing systems. The OSPO provides planning, management, and coordination with the National Weather Service, U.S. Air Force and U.S. Navy and other users for exchange of environmental satellite data. The OSPO assesses, recommends, and plans for the acquisition and initiation of environmental satellite products and services with the United States and international community. The OSPO manages NOAA's Search and Rescue Satellite Aided Tracking (SARSAT) system, and coordinates participation in the International Cospas-Sarsat Program. The OSPO manages the strategic and tactical environmental and oceanographic ice services at the National Ice Center for the operational requirements of U.S. national interests and the United States government agencies.
This position will be filled under the DOC Alternative Personnel System (CAPS). This system replaced the Federal GS pay plan and structure. Under CAPS, positions are classified by career, pay plan, and pay band. The ZP-4 is equivalent to the GS-13/14.
