The Indian Health Service (IHS), an agency within the Department of Health and Human Services, is responsible for providing federal health services to American Indians and Alaska Natives.  The IHS provides a comprehensive health services delivery system for American Indians and Alaska Natives with opportunity for maximum tribal involvement in developing and managing programs to meet their health needs.
To be eligible for this position under the Delegated Examining (DE) hiring plan, you must be a U.S. Citizen.

This Open Continuous Announcement (OCA) allows acceptance of applications throughout the year with eligible applicants being placed on the OCA register and referred for consideration as vacancies occur. The first Cut-Off date for receipt/referral of applications to be considered for available vacant positions will be 06/12/2012.  Other Cut-Off dates will be established base on the date requests for List of Eligibles are received to fill other vacancies.  10 point Veterans' Preference ESEP applicants who submit a complete application after a Cut-Off date but before the List of Eligibles is issued, will be considered and referred on the List, if qualified.  Your applicant eligibility will be set for three (3) months and will expire there after once a complete application packet is received.  You will need to reapply to keep your application active.

Appointment: May be Permanent, Temporary, Excepted Temporary, Excepted Time-Limited, or Term with tour of duty of Full-Time, Part-Time or Intermittent. The Agency has option of extending Time-Limited and Term appointments for up to a maximum of four years. Temporary positions NTE 12 months or less are subject to termination at any time. The Agency has option of extending Temporary position appointments for up to a maximum of two years. Positions filled by Commissioned Corps will be Full Time Permanent Positions only.

POSITION DETAILS:

This position serves as a Medical Technologist at one of the Albuquerque Area Facilities, and is responsible for the Pre-Analytical, and Post Analytical application of established laboratory procedures in accordance to regulatory guidelines for examinations of blood, and other body fluids in the clinical laboratory.  Work assignments are in such specialization as chemistry, hematology, immunology, urinalysis, microbiology, and immunohematology.  Medical Technologist must be able to professionally interact with patients, visitors, and staff.

Salary range: $35,657.00- $62,338.00(Annually)

Other additional compensation for which an employee may be eligible, in addition to their base salary, are a Recruitment and Relocation Incentive (maximum of 25% of base pay); Initial or Renewal of Retention Allowance (maximum of 25% of base pay when necessary); and an Appointment-Above-The-Minimum rate. 

Promotion potential:  Yes

This position has promotion potential to the GS-09 grade level.  If the position is filled at the lower grade, incumbent may be promoted to the full performance grade level once all legal and regulatory requirements are met; however, such promotion is neither automatic nor guaranteed.

Travel Required: Possibly, depending on location.

Relocation Expenses:  Travel Expenses Paid. Travel, transportation and relocation expenses will be paid primarily in the interest of the government and not in the interest of the selected employee.
