WHAT DOES A LEAD TAX EXAMINING TECHNICIAN DO? As a Lead Tax Examining Technician, you will serves as a work leader over employees engaged in accomplishing tax examining work, as well as performing the full range of duties for the journey level. These duties include resolving inquiries regarding tax account issues such as tax delinquency, adjusting taxpayer accounts and providing information about general Service procedures. In this role, you will analyze and take appropriate actions as identified in the specific position for which you are applying. Your assignments may include communicating with taxpayers and their representatives regarding their accounts on notices issued.
WHAT IS THE WAGE AND INVESTMENT DIVISION? The Wage and Investment Division (W&I) serves about 122 million taxpayers who file upwards of 94 million returns each year. Key W&I objectives are to provide high-quality taxpayer assistance, and to enable taxpayers transact and communicate electronically to file their returns, make payments and receive assistance. W&I partners private organizations to provide assistance to such disadvantage groups as elderly and low-income taxpayers.
