The VA North Texas Healthcare System (VANTHCS) is one of the largest healthcare systems within the Department of Veterans Affairs. It serves veteran patients living in 38 counties, including 2 in Oklahoma. In addition to a wide variety of acute care services, VANTHCS provides over one million outpatient visits a year combined at the Dallas, Fort Worth and Bonham medical centers, and several community-based outpatient clinics.

VANTHCS has the largest and most complex Mental Health Service in the VA.  The Service operates as a product line clinical service that manages over 25,000 patients and provides over 100,000 outpatient visits a year. It employs over 460 mental health professionals and offers a full range of mental health services including: outpatient services; a 42-bed acute inpatient program; emergency services; trauma services;  substance abuse sub-specialty services including a 40-bed residential program; opiate replacement programs; geriatrics; psychosomatic medicine; mental health intensive case management;  domiciliary-based programs including a 40-bed domiciliary; psychosocial rehabilitation and recovery programs; comprehensive homeless programs; vocational rehabilitation programs; and peer support services.
