This position is a Criminal Investigator, GS-1811-13 located in Honolulu, Hawaii. As a Criminal Investigator you will be a Senior Special Agent conducting criminal investigations pursuant to wildlife crimes, regulating wildlife trade, and helping others understand and comply with protection laws.
This position is entitled to a 12.25% cost of living adjustment (COLA).
Availability Pay: This position is entitled to 25% Availability Pay, in addition to basic pay. Basic pay includes any special salary rates, locality pay, interim geographic adjustments, special pay adjustments for law enforcement officers, and retained pay. Availability pay is a form of premium pay that is paid on an annual basis as a flat rate to a special agent to ensure his/her availability for unscheduled duty during hours in excess of 40 in a workweek to contend with the needs of the Service's law enforcement work. Availability pay guarantees compensation to criminal investigators who are faced with unique conditions of employment.
Maximum Age Requirement: Due to the special retirement coverage afforded this position, applicants must not have reached their 37th birthday upon appointment to this position. An exception is allowed if there is prior Federal Service in a covered law enforcement or firefighter position(s) and that prior service is sufficient to permit retirement on, or before, the mandatory retirement age of 57. Applicants must provide evidence of current or previous coverage that would qualify. This requirement does not apply to veteran preference eligibles.
Firearm Requirement: You will be required to carry a firearm while performing duties and maintain firearm proficiency. Applicants must be free of domestic violence convictions and able to possess firearms under the terms of the Gun Control Act of 1968, as amended (18 USC 922(G)(9)).
Drug Testing Requirement: Applicant(s) tentatively selected for this position will be required prior to appointment to submit to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use. As a condition of continued employment in this position, incumbent(s) will be subject to random testing for illegal drug use.
Special Retirement: This position is approved as a primary law enforcement position for coverage under the special CSRS and FERS retirement provisions of 5 USC 8336(c) and 5 USC 8412(d).
